THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES
Parents or legal guardians of children under 7 years of age must present the following documents to the parish office:

The child's birth certificate from the country he/she was born in

Photo ID of parents or legal guardians of the child

Address verification with the parent's or legal guardian's name and address

If the child does not reside in Ventura County, a letter of permission from the parish the family attends must be presented.
Sponsors/Godparents must be 16 years of age or older and presents the following documents:
A. If the Sponsor/Godparent is single:
Picture Identification, Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation certificates
​B. If the Sponsor/Godparent is married:
Picture Identification from both persons, Marriage certificate from a Roman Catholic Church

REGISTRATION
1. To register, please visit our parish office with all the documents in hand as soon as possible. (No documents will be received later than the Tuesday before the Pre-Baptismal class)
2. There is a suggested donation of $50.00 per child. Cash or check only.
Important: No person will be permitted to attend the class without having filed the required documents in our Parish Office.

Both parents and sponsors/godparents must attend the pre-baptismal class.
Pre-baptismal class requires registration. Please see the "Registration & Schedule" tab.
Note: Children are not allowed in the class. ​

SCHEDULE
Baptisms are held every Saturday with exception of holidays. The last Saturday of the month is in English, all others are in Spanish.
There is a limit of 25 baptized children each Saturday.
Important: The date for the Sacrament of Baptism can be reserved only when both parents and sponsors/godparents have taken the pre-baptismal class.

SPONSORS
The purpose or function of the sponsor/ godparent is to assist the child being Baptized in living a Christian life and fulfilling the commitment and obligations flowing from it.

Must be chosen for their testimony of faith

Must have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling the function

Must be leading a life of faith within the Catholic tradition
SPONSORS
PARENTS OR
LEGAL GUARDIANS
Only the parents or legal guardians may register a child for the sacrament of baptism. If one or both of the parents stated on the child's birth certificate will not be present, legal custody documents must be presented. In the absence of these documents a legal responsibility agreement form that will be provided by the parish must be filled out and signed by the person presenting the child for baptism.

PREPARATION
It is of upmost importance that the parents/legal guardians are prepared for the responsibility of raising the child in the their Christian life. It is for this reason that these requirements must be fulfilled by parents and sponsors/godparents and that they take their pre-baptismal preparation class. This class will prepare and explain the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism, the reasoning for the requirements, how to prepare for the day of the celebration, and how to guide the child in their Christian life.
